U.S. Navy Capt. Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper, astronaut and mission specialist on the September space shuttle Atlantis flight, will be the guest speaker at the Feb. 7 National Engineers Week Awards Banquet for Ventura and Santa Barbara counties. Stefanyshyn-Piper is the first woman to conduct a spacewalk. The dinner, from 5 to 9 p.m., will be at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum, 40 Presidential Way, Simi Valley. Early registration deadline for $50 tickets ends on Feb. 2; however, tickets can be purchased up until the day of the event for $55 per person.

Late Night Big Band will swing into Town Center Mall this weekend
Simi Valley Town Center will host free performances by a local big band in the mall's center court from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 10 and 11.
The 18-piece Late Night Big Band will bring its swing originals from classic artists such as Buddy Rich, Count Basie and Duke Ellington.

Simi Valley Town Center will host free performances by a local big band in the mall's center court from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 10 and 11.
The 18-piece Late Night Big Band will bring its swing originals from classic artists such as Buddy Rich, Count Basie and Duke Ellington.
The band features a brass section of five saxophonists, four trombonists and four trumpeters, supported by piano, bass and drums.
The group was awarded with a Monterey Bay Blues Festival grant and won the top prize at the Cuesta College Jazz Festival.
