The Simi Valley Education Foundation will host its Celebration of Education Annual Gala from 6:30 p.m. until midnight Friday, March 10 at the Air Force One Pavilion at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley.

All proceeds from the fundraising event go to the Simi Valley Unified School District.

"Last year we raised $130,000 and provided $75,000 in grants to teachers and schools to purchase equipment and books," said Cindy Jacoby, the education foundation's executive director. "We were able to give our schools and teachers additional resources that are so much needed. Everything we raise goes back to the schools. This is such a valuable event for the community."

Simi Valley Ford will host a spring blood drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 17 in the front parking lot of the dealership, 2440 First St. in Simi Valley.

The blood drive is open to dealership staff, customers and the public. Potential donors may sign up by calling the dealership at (805) 583-0333.

All donors receive a certificate for a free Marie Callender's pie.

Donors are reminded to drink plenty of water the day before and several hours prior to donating and to eat healthy meals.

Donors may also have their vehicles washed while they give blood.

The dealership will also host a car wash at $10 per vehicle on the same day as a fundraiser for the Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Simi Valley program.

The city of Simi Valley's Tree Advisory Board will host the seventh annual Arbor Day tree planting program at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 31 at the Veterans Plaza in Rancho Tapo Community Park, 3700 Avenida Simi. The public is invited.

This year's guest speaker will be Rorie Skei, chief deputy director for the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. Her talk will be on the foundation's theme "Tree are Terrific . . . and Forests are, Too."

Posters created by local fifthgrade classes who participated in the National Arbor Day Poster Contest will be on display.

Cherry trees will be planted to posthumously honor local citizens, including Dr. John Anderson, veterinarian to the city's canine unit, and James Dougherty, former Ventura County supervisor and City Council member.
