Actors’ Repertory Theatre of Simi brings this thoroughly enjoyable new musical to our stage for a Ventura County premiere. Thoroughly Modern Millie is a zany new 1920s musical that tells the story of young Millie Dillmount, who has just moved to New York City in search of a new life. It was an era of intrigue and jazz--a time when women were entering the workforce and the rules of love and social behavior were changing forever.

The Kiwanis Club of Simi Valley will host the cleanup of Tierra Rejada Park on Saturday, April 7 to commemorate Kiwanis One Day, a global action day benefiting children and communities. The removal of trash in the arroyo will be at 10 a.m. at the top of Stargaze Place off Tierra Rejada Road. Participants will also include the Kiwanis Club of Santa Susana, Key Clubs, Builders Clubs, SimiSu Aktion Club, Boy Scout Troop 623 and Event Medical for on-site paramedics. Colleen Janssen and Larry Petersen handled the coordination with the Department of Recreation and Parks. The Simi Valley participants will join nearly 600,000 volunteers around the world in devoting a few hours to handson volunteer service. | ||

The public is invited to offer input at the meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19 at the Plaza del Sol Community Room, 4231 Alamo St., Simi Valley. "We invite all opinionmakers and decisionmakers to attend," said Socorro Lopez Hanson, executive director of Community Action. "We hold these meetings every two years, listen to the information provided, analyze it and then compile a report that will guide us for the next two years. We want to make sure that the needs in Ventura County get the attention they deserve so that we can make it a better place to for all of our neighbors." | ||

Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County will conduct a homeownership workshop at noon at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, 3050 Los Angeles Ave. Attendance at the workshop is mandatory for an opportunity to help build and own one of three detached homes near the southeast corner of Royal and Sequoia avenues in Simi Valley. The homes are targeted for very-low-income families living in substandard conditions. Persons interested in obtaining one of these homes are required to bring to the workshop Social Security information for each household member, 2006 W-2 forms for each household member over age 18 and documentation of all sources of income. | ||

Those present will be encouraged to review plans and graphic displays and to participate in an openforum discussion. The city of Simi Valley Neighborhood Council's fifth annual Arroyo Cleanup will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 28. Volunteers will meet at Madera Road, south of Easy Street and behind The Decor Store. Waste Management will provide a complimentary barbecue lunch.
