Local residents and their dogs will take over the Rancho Simi Community Park on Saturday to raise money for Animal Rescue Volunteers at the third annual Wag N' Walk.

More than 300 participants and their dogs are expected to walk a 3-mile path that starts at the park at Royal Avenue and Erringer Road. The goal this year is to raise at least $30,000, which will be used to benefit homeless animals in the Greater Simi Valley area.

Animal Rescue Volunteers has rescued more than 5,000 dogs, cats and horses since 1994. It provides food, care and foster homes for the animals until they are adopted. Adoptions are held every Saturday at PetSmart in Simi Valley.

Strathearn Historical Park & Museum will participate in Smithsonian magazine's fourth annual Museum Day by offering free admission Saturday.

Museum Day is a day when most museums and cultural institutions nationwide open their doors for free admission. A celebration of culture and learning, Museum Day emulates the free-admission policy of the Smithsonian Institution's Washington, D.C.-based properties.

Last year, more than 100,000 people attended Museum Day in 651 participating museums in all 50 states.

Strathearn museum is at 137 Strathearn Place. Free admission and docent tours will be available from 1 to 4 p.m.
