Write 4 Hope Blues Festival 2008

Blues Festival will be Sat., April 26 at Oak Park in Simi Valley.

The headiner is Grammy nominee Robben Ford, whose CD "Truth" recently garnered his fifth nomination for Best Contemporary Blues Album of the Year.

Also scheduled to perform are Jimmy Z and the ZTribe, Michael John and the Bottom Line, the John Parker Band, Gino Matteo, Laurie Morvan Band, Barry "Big B" Brenner and surprise guests.

Proceeds from the festival will help support local charities.

National Multiple Sclerosis Society Fundraiser at Red's Barbeque

It is that time of year again! Pull out your wallets and come have dinner "Red's Barbeque" on Tuesday, March 25, 2008! This will be the annual fundraiser for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Eat there on that day only and 15% of what you spend there will go toward the cause.

History Day at Strathearn Park

Strathearn Park & Museum will hold its annual History Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 16.

Two special performances will entertain all ages in the remodeled Visitor Center.

At noon, "Toys & Games From the 19th Century" will be demonstrated and discussed by Beth Miller from Dudley House Museum.

At 2 p.m., Simi Settlers Radio Club will give a presentation about the history and technology behind amateur radio broadcasting.

Additionally, club members will demonstrate live broadcasting throughout the day.

Aside from the special performances, many club groups and individual collectors will be exhibiting.

Learn CPR, first aid at Simi Valley hospital

Simi Valley Hospital will offer a course in pediatric and adult CPR and first aid from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sun., Sept. 9 at the hospital, 2975 N. Sycamore Drive.

The American Heart Association course covers CPR and relief of choking in adults, children and infants. The first aid section teaches participants how to manage illness and injuries in the first few minutes until professional help arrives.

Participants will also learn basic first aid tips that can be used on adults and children.

The fee is $85, and preregistration is required.

The Simi Valley Vikings Football and Cheer will present Monte Carlo Casino Night with a Texas hold'em tournament from 5:30 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday., Aug. 25 at Lost Canyons Golf Club, 3301 Lost Canyon Drive, Simi Valley.

Instructions for Texas hold'em begin at 5:30 p.m. The tournament starts at 6:15 p.m.

A $100 buyin includes admission, Monte Carlo games and the Texas hold'em tournament. There are $50 re-buys.
