Blues Festival will be Sat., April 26 at Oak Park in Simi Valley.

The headiner is Grammy nominee Robben Ford, whose CD "Truth" recently garnered his fifth nomination for Best Contemporary Blues Album of the Year.

Also scheduled to perform are Jimmy Z and the ZTribe, Michael John and the Bottom Line, the John Parker Band, Gino Matteo, Laurie Morvan Band, Barry "Big B" Brenner and surprise guests.

Proceeds from the festival will help support local charities.

Triple play can't even bring down Simi Valley

Simi Valley rallied in the sixth, tying the score on a double by Tawny Reeger before scoring the winning run off the bat of Amber Olive to escape with a 2-1 victory over TO -- the Pioneers' third victory over their Marmonte League rivals this season. Olive's blooper to shallow left field should have been the final out of the inning, but the catchable ball popped out of Brooke Johnson's glove as she sprinted toward the diamond.

Still, despite the dose of luck, Simi Valley showed everybody at Rancho Santa Susana Park why its 23-0 and destined to win this year's Marmonte League title. Coach Russ Michael said his team never gave up hope -- even though he said he was a little worried following the triple play. And today's game illustrates a brand of toughness that will serve the Pioneers well in the postseason.

New Target at the Old Kmart

The plan to build a Target in Simi Valley is moving forward and dates have been set for construction.

Target is scheduled to appear before the Simi Valley Planning Commission to discuss the plans to build the Target store at the site of the old Kmart building at the corner of Los Angeles Avenue and Madera Road, said Brian Gabler, Simi Valley's assistant city manager.

If approved, Target plans to begin demolishing the existing building on Oct. 1. Grading for the land is scheduled to begin on Nov. 1 and construction on Dec. 1. Gabler said Target's timeline has the new store opening in September 2009.

Paul Molé, band leader and owner of Paul's Italian Villa dies at 60

Well-known restaurateur and big-band leader Paul Molé died Tuesday at his home in Simi Valley at 60.

Molé, who served Simi Valley residents for more than 40 years through his Cochran Street restaurant, Paul's Italian Villa, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the fall.

His wife, Roseann, said she and Molé purchased the eatery from her parents in 1974, but Molé had worked there steadily since he was 16 and it was called Kitty and Simone's. Roseann's parents bought it in 1965.
