Simi Valley Braces for Fire Threat, Hurricane Force Winds

LOS ANGELES -- The threat of wildfires will return to the Southland starting Friday as gusting offshore Santa Ana winds make a comeback, particularly in mountain areas and the Santa Clarita Valley.

The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning -- indicating a heightened risk of wildfire -- effective from noon Friday until 4 p.m. Sunday.

The warning was declared for Los Angeles County mountains, including Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area; the Angeles National Forest; coastal areas, including downtown Los Angeles; the Santa Clarita and San Fernando valleys; as well as coastal, valley and mountain areas of Ventura County.

Dog Park Coming to Simi Valley

Simi Valley’s first dog park is set to officially open in March, but before any dogs will be allowed, a few ground rules had to be established.

On Thursday, the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District board set the rules for patrons and their pooches at the long-awaited park. The Simi Dog Park is on three acres on Los Canyons Drive, just off the north end of Erringer Road and next to Big Sky Ranch Park. Many of the rules were adapted from other area dog parks, including Conejo Dog Park in Thousand Oaks. Among the rules at the new park:
